Pieces of Venice is a enterprise project conceived by Luciano Marson and managed together with his wife Karin, born out of their love for the city of Venice, for its materials, for its expert craftsmanship, for its beauty... AWARDED the XXVI COMPASSO D’ORO for Social Design Enterprise project. Pieces of Venice it’s a social enterprise that functions on circular economy principals with a short supply chain. Starting with the reclamation and recycling, discarded materials from Venice are given new life through industrial design projects that turn them into souvenirs or useful objects. There is also a link between older and younger generations, through a story which is told, like the one about this propeller that was inspired by the twisted stick of an ice cream bar I ate as a child. These products give beauty back to the city from which they come, offering tourists the opportunity to contribute to the ‘Save Venice one piece at a time’ initiative, aimed at funding some interventions to restore the decorations in the historic city centre. In this way, actual pieces of Venice come back to life; benefitting the city and resulting in a strong commitment on a social level. In fact, Pieces of Venice is a privately-held Benefit Company that entrusts much of its production to the FUTURA Social Cooperative, thus helping to reintegrate 60 disadvantaged youth into the workforce. The products are all dedicated to this city, unique in the world, starting with their names, which indicate an address—of a cultural institution, such as a museum, or of a business known for its excellence, such as a restaurant—drawing a map that leads the tourist to discover the city’s hidden treasures. Beauty can come from anything, even refuse abandoned in the lagoon.
