At Pilgrim Terrace Cooperative Homes (PTCH), our non-profit organization is dedicated to enhancing the lives of low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities. We strive to foster independent living within a nurturing community that promotes holistic well-being. Through our innovative approach, we provide access to nourishing, wholesome meals enriched with locally grown fruits and vegetables from our on-site urban farm. Our mission is to empower individuals by encouraging healthy nutrition, facilitating mental and physical activity, and fostering social interaction, thus creating a supportive environment for vibrant and fulfilling lives. The Pilgrim Terrace Community Garden, located at 649 Pilgrim Terrace Drive on Modoc Road, serves to give Pilgrim Terrace residents and local residents access to inexpensive plots to grow fresh and organic vegetables, flowers, herbs, and spices. The Community Garden allows intergenerational collaboration, support, and camaraderie among each of the gardeners. We have around 55 garden plots that are open from dawn to half an hour after sunset. Along with our regular garden plots, we have 6 wheelchair-accessible plots. We have assumed full responsibility of the operations of Pilgrim Terrace Community Gardens from the City of Santa Barbara. The United States has now hit the worst levels of hunger in decades with 54 million Americans having no reliable access to food.
