About Pillows for Paws
Pillows for Paws is a 501(c)(3) volunteer-run organization dedicated to bringing comfort and love to NYC’s shelter cats, dogs, rabbits, and guinea pigs. We provide handmade beds and toys to the city shelter, Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), helping animals feel safe and comfortable during their stay. In addition to these handmade items, we also provide purchased toys, treats, and other enrichment items through several dedicated funds: - The Fresh Direct Fund provides weekly donations of fresh greens for rabbits and guinea pigs at the Queens and Manhattan shelters. - The Monthly Toy and Treat Fund ensures a steady supply of toys and treats, which are shipped each month to the ACC shelters in Staten Island, Manhattan, and Queens. - The Max Fund supplies fleece strips used to create hundreds of dog tug toys. Our primary mission is to support ACC by making the shelter environment more comfortable for homeless animals who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned. By providing beds to keep them warm, toys to keep them engaged, and treats to keep them active and happy, we contribute to their emotional well-being and overall health during their stay. These items also help socialize the animals, increasing their chances of finding a home. Comfort items in cages can also make a difference for potential adopters—seeing an animal resting on a cozy bed or playing with a toy helps them envision that animal in a home environment. With an overwhelming 30,000 animals surrendered to NYC shelters each year, we also advocate for adoption over purchasing. Through toy-making workshops for children, we promote humane education, teaching future generations about the challenges facing homeless animals and the importance of adoption.
