About Pipeline to The Mecca
Pipeline to the Mecca, Inc. is a college access and mentorship organization primarily led by students at Howard University. The organization connects current Howard students with high school juniors and seniors, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to support their college application journey. In addition to pre-college mentorship, the organization fosters peer mentorship for incoming Howard University students before they arrive on campus, promoting early academic and social integration. Pipeline to The Mecca, Inc. was founded on October 3, 2022, by students at Howard University committed to increasing representation and access to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) for underrepresented youth. What began as a grassroots mentorship effort in Virginia and Massachusetts has grown into a national and international initiative with over 577 student members and 255 mentor-mentee matches to date. We envision a future where every Black and brown student has equitable access to the information, resources, and support needed to navigate the college journey with confidence. By increasing awareness of HBCUs and expanding mentorship opportunities, we aim to foster a generation of empowered students who are prepared, connected, and inspired to succeed at their respective HBCUs. Pipeline to The Mecca, Inc. seeks to match current Howard University students with high school juniors and seniors, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, to provide mentorship, college preparation, and increased awareness of HBCUs. We also support incoming Howard students through peer mentorship before they arrive on campus, ensuring they are equipped to thrive academically and socially.
