As raw nutritional material whose inherent value has been historically unrealized, beer brewer’s spent grain (BSG) and brewer’s spent yeast (BSY) are the waste by-products of beer production. The possibility of converting BSG and BSY into high-value products has long been both attractive and elusive to brewers. Plentify Nutritional Sciences aims to upscale this wasted BSG and BSY biomass to produce high-quality, high-value protein that allows the beer and plant-based protein industries to accelerate their transitions to sustainable and circular bio-economies. The result reduces waste and unnecessary shipping impacts, and helps eliminate both animal cruelty and the destructive land use often required for other plant-based protein sources. Our unfair advantage is that Plentify stands alone in its ability to engineer proteins to precise functional specifications. Edible proteins with rich nutritional content and low costs are already a holy grail goal for reuse of BSG and BSY. Plentify’s defensible path to enabling these aspirations is coupled with delivering the world’s first engineered, non-novel (no regulatory hurdles) source of fully-specified protein materials.
