About Porchlight Community Services

Porchlight tackles food insecurity at the source through financial education, community involvement, and personal empowerment. We know that a financially confident future depends on creating a pattern of self-sufficiency now. We are a community of volunteers who rescue food and re-distribute it to our neighbors. Our organization was started in 2016 by a single mom with the support of her like-minded neighbors to help provide a dignified access to food while minimize food waste. From our humble beginnings of porches and driveways to our 700 sq. ft. office, our dual food rescue and food pantry program is located in the heart of San Diego (Kearny Mesa) and offers a market-style shopping experience. We also offer community events like holiday parties and clothing swaps and have a zero-waste refill pantry coming soon!
