About Porous Lane
Paving the way for greener, flood-resilient cities. At Porous Lane, we transform waste tyres into high-performance permeable pavements that work where others can’t — combining sustainability, strength, and water-sensitive urban design (WSUD) principles. Traditional impermeable surfaces block rainfall from soaking into the ground, increasing runoff, overwhelming stormwater systems, and starving urban trees of water. Our engineered permeable pavements change that. Designed for carparks, nature strips, pedestrian areas, and lightly trafficked roads, they allow water to filter through, reducing flood risk, recharging groundwater, and treating stormwater before it reaches waterways. Our tree-friendly designs enable passive irrigation, delivering water directly to root zones, reducing disruptive root spread, and helping urban trees thrive. In trials, trees adjacent to Porous Lane pavements have grown up to three times faster than those in conventional settings. Made with up to 60% recycled waste tyres, combined with virgin rock and a proven binder system, our pavements are flexible yet strong, resisting cracking and deformation even in root-active areas. With a design life of 20–25 years and minimal maintenance requirements, they deliver long-term value for councils, developers, and communities. Our mission: keep tyres out of landfill, create longer-lasting public assets, and help cities manage water and heat more sustainably. From improving tree health to protecting waterways and reducing urban heat islands, Porous Lane is building infrastructure that benefits both people and the planet.
