About Port Huron Housing Commission
The Port Huron Housing Commission (PHHC) provides housing assistance to those in need in ways that support individuals and families move towards financial soundness and economic self-sufficiency. The Port Huron Housing Commission strives to be an asset to the community and not be considered as a last resort housing, but an opportunity for those in need to regain self-sufficiency, and to be a viable partner with residents, local landlords, community organizations, and local governments. The PHHC operates low-income housing assistance rental programs for families and seniors through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). It operates on funding received solely from rental income and federal housing subsidies. All rental or assistance amounts are based on household gross income less applicable deductions. Under the Public Housing Program, the Housing Commission owns and operates five affordable housing villages, three of which are designated for family living and two designated for senior living. The Housing Commission also operates a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program which assists residents renting on the private market with their rent. The Housing Commission is governed by a Board of five Commissioners which are appointed by the City of Port Huron City Manager to staggered five-year terms. The Housing Commissioners, along with staff, pride themselves on a strong financial commitment and they are dedicated to meet the above charge. These commitments are achieved from our many housing, modernization, maintenance, and resident service programs. The Port Huron Housing Commission has received numerous awards for its innovative programs.
