About Portland State University, College of Urban and Public Affairs
CUPA houses two schools, the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government and the Nohad A. Toulan School of Urban Studies and Planning, and six academic units: Criminology & Criminal Justice, Economics, Politics & Global Affairs, Public Administration, and Urban Studies & Planning. Our undergraduate, graduate, and certificate programs provide students with knowledge and skills that connect them with careers in government, law enforcement, urban management, economics, nonprofit management, urban planning, international relations, and more. We encourage our students to foster equity in urban life and recognize how they can contribute to a more just future. Our Centers and Institutes conduct research and provide expertise to community partners all over the world—from helping a rural Oregon town estimate its population growth to developing a no-waste policy for a local grocery store chain. CUPA truly embodies the Portland State University motto, “Let Knowledge Serve the City.”
