About Post:Ballet
Post:Ballet was founded in 2009 by choreographer Robert Dekkers with a vision to collaborate with multi-disciplinary artists in new and innovative ways. The company integrates modern aesthetics with classically based dance to present work that is deeply personal and relevant to both the creative artists and to our community. Hailed as a “contemporary performance powerhouse with limitless potential”(Critical Dance), Post:Ballet has been turning heads with its daring creations since its first San Francisco performances in 2010. Conceived and developed by choreographer Robert Dekkers, Post: is dedicated to collaborating with diverse artists to develop original works that use dance as a means, and not an end, to creative expression. Last season, Post: combined forces with The Living Earth Show, a “fantastically distorted perpetual motion of awesome” (I Care If You Listen) to create an entirely original evening-length production, ‘Do Be.’ The company’s most in-depth collaboration to date, ‘Do Be’ was met with standing ovations, filled houses, and critical acclaim: SF Chronicle declared “Post:Ballet’s Dekkers proves ‘Do Be’ project worth doing… an audacious and engaging piece." Post:Ballet, named “Best New Dance” of San Francisco by 7×7 Magazine, has received funding from the San Francisco Arts Commission, Wattis Foundation, San Francisco Foundation, Zellerbach Family Foundation, Kenneth Rainin Foundation, Fleishhacker Foundation, Moca Foundation, and the In Performance Series, funded through Grants for the Arts/San Francisco Hotel Tax Fund and The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Post:Ballet is a fiscally sponsored project of Dancers’ Group, a non-profit corporation, and is grateful for the generosity of its Patrons, whose tax-deductible contributions have enabled the company to collaborate with artists across disciplines and cultures since 2010.
