About PPE20
PPE20 - Potential Physiological Energy version 2.0. provides energy values of all feedstuffs and recommendations for feed mills and others that formulate pig feed. Feed is the most expensive input for swine production, and energy is the nutrient that costs the most. Getting the energy evaluation right is the most critical factor, as recommendations for all nutrients are a ratio of energy concentration. There are two original energy evaluation systems used commercially in the world today, which are the French and Danish systems. The Dutch energy system is based on the French system, except for using different analytical methods for determining nutrients. The French and Danish systems have similarities and several differences. Consequently, the difference makes the ranking of feedstuffs different. Formulation using the same feedstuffs and only attributing different energy values to the feedstuffs; the diets are not the same. InterPig collects and evaluates pig production performance and costs annually, including feed costs. The data from InterPig published in the last few years shows that Denmark and The Netherlands have the lowest feed costs in Europe. In the UK and Germany, the potential is +€300 million in potential cost savings if feed costs were only 10% above the level of Denmark and The Netherlands. At the same time, Denmark and the Netherlands are at the top of the list for animal performance. So, feeding cheaply does not necessarily mean poor performance. One of the people behind PPE20 took part in developing the Danish Energy system 25 years ago. The people behind PPE20 have implemented the knowledge built since and updated the Danish system (version 2.0). PPE20 offers its customers energy values for their feedstuffs and recommendations for all nutrients. The recommendations are tailor-made to the grouping of animals the customer needs. The recommendations are more than a copy of the Danish recommendations. The service is provided as a subscription.
