Precise Health is a Personalized Phage platform aiming to improve and treat bacterial infections employing a combination of bacteriophage technology with data science and machine learning. The vision is to create phage-based products to replace broad-spectrum antibiotics PROBLEM Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an escalating global health crisis, exacerbated by the widespread use of broad-spectrum antimicrobials notably across healthcare, agriculture, and personal care products. The implications of AMR are profound, with: - Drug-resistance making infections harder to treat thereby increasing the risk to treat other medical procedures such as surgeries and chemotherapies - An estimated 5 million deaths related to AMR reported in 2019, a figure projected to rise to 10 million deaths by 2050. - Beyond the human deaths, AMR poses severe economic challenges, with the World Bank forecasting up to $1 trillion in additional healthcare costs by 2050 and annual GDP losses ranging from $1 trillion to $3.4 trillion by 2030. The widespread prevalence of AMR is attributed to the non-selective nature of substances with antimicrobial effect (i.e., antibiotics, Personal care product ingredients). In fact, these antimicrobial substances fail to exclusively target and eliminate harmful bacteria, instead also eradicating beneficial bacteria, which leads to microbial imbalance. Therefore, finding selective and precise solutions to replace broad spectrum antimicrobials is crucial to prevent healthcare crises due to untreatable infections, and to ensure global public health safety.
