About Prince William Sound Regional Citizens' Advisory Council

The Prince William Sound Regional Citizens’ Advisory Council was formed after the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill to provide a voice for citizens affected by decisions related to the Alyeska Pipeline Service Company’s Valdez Marine Terminal and associated oil tankers. Our 18 member organizations are communities in the region affected by the 1989 spill, as well as commercial fishing, aquaculture, Alaska Native, recreation, tourism, and environmental groups. The Council is an independent nonprofit corporation working to prevent pollution and other harm from crude oil transportation through Prince William Sound and the Gulf of Alaska. Our staff and volunteers promote public awareness of oil industry operations in our region. The Council also monitors, reviews, and provides advice on: - Oil spill prevention and response plans for our region - The general operations and environmental protection capabilities of Alyeska and the tanker operators - Government policies, permits, and regulations relating to the terminal and tankers
