About Prirašytos rankos

Founded in 2019, we are an NGO in Lithuania striving to reduce the rate of reoffending and the marginalization of people behind bars. We work with a singular mission: helping incarcerated individuals build lives free from crime. We do this by: 1. Ensuring access to quality non-formal education in prisons; 2. Building genuine and long-lasting connections between people in prisons and outside of them; 3. Changing the public’s perception of incarcerated individuals. Annually, we conduct over 250 non-formal education activities in 75 % of Lithuanian prisons. Most activities are led by volunteers who not only strive to pass on some useful skills, like financial or emotional literacy, but also to bring positivity, inspire and provide emotional support to incarcerated people. Beyond prison walls, we strive to break negative stereotypes by organizing workshops, art exhibitions, and creating engaging content online that illuminates the complex life experiences of those behind bars. In 2022, we were recognized as one of the strongest advocates for justice in Lithuania in the competition "Lietuvos galia” (“The Power of Lithuania”), sponsored by the President of Lithuania.
