In an economy often hostile to small businesses, support and advice for SME leaders from a peer who has shared the same stresses and strains, can be invaluable. Having grown a successful brand in the FM sector, and invested in others, I am offering a portion of time to support SME leaders in the facilities services arena, specifically those offering niche specialist sub-contract services. My focus when working with any business is firstly to understand its direct and indirect costs, building a financial model which will clarify where sale price points should be and why. The same model also assists with target setting for your sales and ops teams, with the ability to generate complex estimates for sales opportunities, using live cost data from your business. As part of a broader support offering I review the businesses overheads, P&L actual vs industry standard, cashflow, operational processes, sales & marketing, and personal branding for the SMT. The goal is to set your business on a path to sustainable growth with a structure in place that will allow you to become more strategic, and less embroiled in day to day operations. This then expands into succession planning and exit planning, which can be somewhat of a minefield where vested interests look to take advantage. The clients contacts and specialist advisors I've worked with over the years can be introduced where there's a fit, potentially adding real value in the process. I can work with clients on a day rate basis or consider non-exec roles, working within the hours I have available outside of my other executive commitments. Why do this? Anyone who knows or has worked with me knows I thrive on a new challenge and love to learn. Having taken great satisfaction (and a wee bit of stress) building a brand and learning the hard way, it's rewarding to support other business leaders whilst learning their businesses and expanding my sector knowledge.
