About Pro Alps - vormals Alpen-Initiative

Pro Alps macht sich stark für eine nachhaltige Verkehrspolitik, um das einzigartige und ökologisch sensible Alpengebiet zu schützen und als Lebensraum zu erhalten. Als Sprachrohr der Alpen vereint Pro Alps umweltbewusste Alpenbewohnerinnen und Alpenliebhaber aus der ganzen Schweiz. Ihren Ursprung hat die unabhängige Umweltorganisation in der «Alpeninitiative», die 1994 vom Schweizer Stimmvolk angenommen wurde. Seither ist der Schutz der Alpen vor dem Transitverkehr in der Verfassung verankert. Trotz dieser Errungenschaft wird der Alpenschutz mit der Verlagerung des alpenquerenden Güterverkehrs auf die Schiene bis heute nicht konsequent umgesetzt und der wachsende Personenverkehr bringt die Alpen zusätzlich in Bedrängnis. Der Einsatz von Pro Alps bleibt unerlässlich, damit die Alpen nicht unter die Räder kommen. Verkehr vermeiden, verlagern, verträglicher gestalten: Diesen Ansatz verfolgt Pro Alps. Die Fachorganisation entwickelt dafür weitsichtige Lösungen und sensibilisiert Politik und Öffentlichkeit. Mit Wanderungen in und Produkten aus den Alpen macht Pro Alps die Bergregionen ausserdem erlebbar. Der Verein finanziert sich über Mitgliederbeiträge sowie Spenden und Projektbeiträge. Er ist von der ZEWO als vertrauenswürdige Organisation zertifiziert.
