About Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan

PBLS facilitates free legal services for low-income people throughout the province of Saskatchewan. We work to fill the gap of legal services between government funded legal aid and hiring a private lawyer. To do this work, PBLS relies on volunteer lawyers and articling students. The two programs we run are Free Legal Clinics and Panel Programs. Legal Clinics The Legal Clinics are 3-4 hour shifts during which a lawyer volunteers to provide summary legal advice, in their pre-specified area of law, to pre-screened low-income people. Lawyers can volunteer in Clinics that are during or outside of business hours. Most of our volunteer lawyers volunteer at a Clinic six times a year. Panel Programs Panel Program volunteers are put on a roster. When PBLS receives an eligible applicant for the panel program, the roster of volunteers receive an email detailing the legal matter and assistance needed. It is then up to the lawyer to take the matter on and assist the client within a lawyer-client relationship, or not. Eligible panel referrals are for people with limited capacity to represent themselves. We have panel programs in seven areas: Immigration & Refugee, Inmates, Criminal Appeals, Seniors, Residential & Tenancies, General Civil Litigation and Solicitor. We make volunteering easy. - For the Legal Clinics, you will only be scheduled clients in your specified areas of law - For the Panels, you only take on what you want to, when it works for you - For the Panels, PBLS has the CBA Disbursement Fund to cover up to $1000 of eligible disbursements - Your existing malpractice insurance covers your pro bono work as well
