Professional Health Consulting (PHC) is a Florida-based consulting service providing workshops and coaching in Motivational Interviewing (MI), interpersonal coaching and conflict resolution for both health care providers and business leaders. Effective communication is essential to the provision of quality services in organizations, particularly in healthcare systems that prioritize patient-centered delivery of care, and improving communication in the workplace enhances staff morale, avoids unnecessary complaints, and improves patient-centered care. PHC designs and implements comprehensive training programs for systems that seek to integrate MI into their clinical care and/or into their leadership approach. Seminars and workshops with follow-up coaching are offered locally or on site and address general concepts of MI as well as population specific applications of MI, including our popular programs for MI and health promotion/disease prevention (MI-Health) and our newest program for MI and leadership (MI-LEAD). MI workshops improve provider-client communication skills through didactic presentations, exercises, role plays and interactive discussions. When a healthcare professional encounters difficulties effectively communicating with patients, their families or other members of the healthcare team, PHC offers an alternative to potential workplace disruption through interpersonal coaching, creating an individualized learning plan based on the provider's goal for change. Coaching utilizes one-on-one observations and feedback to enhance interpersonal effectiveness. When a provider faces workplace conflict to the extent that he or she is experiencing legal or professional difficulties, including professional monitoring, board investigations or loss of employment, individual psychotherapy through PHC assists the provider in examining the cognitive and behavioral aspects surrounding these difficulties with a focus on improving interpersonal effectiveness.
