About Professional Theatre and Dance Youth Academy

Our Mission Professional Theatre and Dance Youth Academy believes all youth deserve a positive and safe space to grow and express themselves through the performing arts. Our mission is three fold: 1: To use the arts to encourage youth in their development of self-esteem, responsibility, discipline, leadership, pride, ownership in their work and confidence in embracing new challenges; 2: To keep music education alive in schools and instill an appreciation of the arts; 3: To expose students to a professional theatre and dance instructional environment There is a strong correlation between participation in the arts and self esteem and academic achievement. PTDYA supports creative styles of instruction in a loving and nurturing environment in an effort to reinforce the correlation between student success in the arts and overall student success. Professional artists demand high expectations and accountability from students, challenging them in their specialized art form. The goal of the program is to not only help urban youth to become better artists and performers but to excel as individuals, contributing to their surrounding community and society as a whole. To accomplish our mission, we are creating a collaborative and flexible business model through which we can bring artistic direction, administration, programming and / or instruction to existing organizations. Schools, churches, community centers, other arts organizations all benefit from a strong performing arts department. However, most are unable to create full-time positions or departments, hire experienced artists and stage exciting professional productions. PTDYA is structured to bring whatever level of programming and direction your organization needs. We are a not-for-profit 501c3 company.
