About Professional Young Insurance Brokers of Alberta
Our mission is to build a strong, professional young broker network through continuing education, industry involvement, and political action. The PYIB aims to create a solid foundation for success and perpetuation of the broker profession. PYIB offers support for new recruits to the insurance industry or professionals with a few years of experience. PYIB is a resource for professional development, industry involvement, and political action. All IBAA members who are 39 years of age and under are automatically members of the PYIB. If you meet these criteria, logon to the IBAA website, go to the section for Groups in your IBAA profile, and join the PYIB group. PYIB develops a support network, engages in lobby efforts, and runs charity events. Members network with Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC—the national association), the sister provincial associations, and the Big I in the U.S. to promote young broker networks. PYIB members take part in the association's lobby efforts, such as national Hill Day in Ottawa, provincial Legislature Day in Edmonton, and other meetings with MLAs. PYIB helps to create a better awareness of the insurance industry, improves young brokers' confidence, and creates a venue for industry peers to meet. It acts as an introduction for young broker members into the provincial broker association by providing a venue for political involvement and input on the ongoing changes within our industry. It also helps to tailor education to meet the current needs of young brokers, gets involved with communities at a grassroots level to help strengthen the broker image, and provides a place for young brokers to voice their opinions and help shape the future of the broker industry. PYIB provides two awards that support students in post-secondary schools who are pursuing a career as an insurance broker. The students must demonstrate academic excellence, exemplary work ethic, and enthusiasm for the insurance industry
