About Professor Carol
Silver Age Music provides public speaking, recorded programs, and DVD programs about music and history. It is dedicated to restoring serious study of music to its proper place in the Western curriculum. Plato said "education in music is most sovereign." Yet our modern culture has dismissed music as a "frill," failing to see that an understanding of music provides a key to academics. The student who can describe Beethoven's style, for example, gains a tool for understanding the Napoleonic Wars and the expansion of 19th-century nationalism. A knowledge of music created for the Protestant Reformation, the Industrial Age, and the settling of America bring those historic events to life and enshrine them in the student's memory. Language, art, architecture, literature, and the sciences find distinct parallels in the progression of styles in Western music. Dr. Carol Reynolds is fluent in German and Russian. She founded and co-directed SMU's summer session in Germany for many years and has led arts tours Russia, Germany, and throughout Eastern Europe.
