WiReCo (Wireless Community Network) is the first community wireless network in Western Sicily. APS Progetto Wireco is a Social Promotion Association registered as an Internet Service Provider at the Ministry of Economic Development and the R.O.C. n ° 31136 - Associated with RIPE NCC AS207434. Wireco Non-profit communication operator, born from the intuition of a group of people who, to compensate for the monopoly of traditional telecommunications operators and the lack of adequate Internet connectivity in the area, decide to set up the first non-profit communication operator of Western Sicily, able to provide broadband connectivity to members. In addition to the elimination of the Digital Divide, the association aims to provide connectivity at economically sustainable conditions through the use of appropriate technologies in compliance with current legislation. Wireco is not just an Internet Service Provider, but being a Social Promotion Association, it is linked to the area in which it operates. It promotes the culture in the technological field of the members of the Project, organizes seminars aimed at the dissemination and sustainability of new technologies through agreements with local authorities, and also supports the protection of monumental and artistic assets. Progetto Wireco intends to reduce the digital divide in all its forms, both infrastructural and cultural. For this reason, in addition to broadband Internet access, actions will be put in place to support and consolidate the use of the network through dedicated courses, especially for the most sensitive groups: children and the elderly. In particular, the Association has planned to hold courses on new technologies and the conscious use of social media.
