About Project Amigo
Project Amigo empowers disadvantaged and marginalized children in Colima, Mexico. By providing comprehensive scholarships for formal education, school supplies, educational assistance centers, homework clubs, enrichment activities, and healthcare services that would otherwise be unavailable. Project Amigo helps these children reach their full potential. Our program supports students who are at risk of dropping out of school and facing child labor due to family and economic challenges. Thanks to our sponsors and Project Amigo´s efforts: We have achieved an 89% graduation rate in secondary school, offering a significant impact in a region with the highest rate of child labor in Mexico. High school students in our program are 18% more likely to graduate compared to their peers nationwide, highlighting the substantial difference our support makes. Our college graduation rate is 95%, dramatically surpassing the national average of 25%, illustrating the profound effect of our program on students' futures. Project Amigo’s roots trace back to the 1980s when American founders began assisting the rural community of Cofradía de Suchitlán. Officially established as a charity in 1996, it has become a powerful force in creating opportunities for students across rural communities in Colima. We are committed to ending poverty through education and enrich these communities through key partnerships with civic groups, individual donors, and businesses. Sponsor a child and become a Padrino today, attend one of our service weeks, or make a donation on our website to help continue empowering these students.
