Project90, a club at the Schulich School of Engineering, engages students in impact-driven engineering projects. For the 2024-25 academic year, the club is focusing on four major initiatives. The first project, in partnership with Developing World Connections, aims to improve access to clean drinking water for the rural village of Taus, Costa Rica. The team will repair the existing piping system, build a new water storage tank, and install an upstream filtration system. The second project collaborates with Alberta Children’s Hospital to develop a leg press mechanism for children with cerebral palsy. This wheelchair attachment will help strengthen lower body muscles through safe, adjustable exercises tailored to various abilities. The third initiative designs a kneeling frame to promote mobility and independence for children with disabilities. By enabling engagement in daily activities at eye level and supporting weight-bearing exercises, the frame will prioritize safety, comfort, and ergonomic design while incorporating user feedback. The fourth initiative, Engineering Unleashed, offers a workshop series for high school students at the University of Calgary. This program teaches core engineering principles through hands-on activities, covering 3D modeling, circuit design, and programming with tools like electrical components and 3D printing. Project90 addresses community needs while providing students with practical experience that encourages innovation and social responsibility.
