Global coral reefs and underwater ecosystems are under threat from oceanic warming, industrial fishing, and offshore runoff. 500 million people worldwide rely on coastal reefs for food, coastal protection, and their livelihoods. Yet around the world, tropical coral reefs are down 30-50% since the 1980s. Preserving and restoring these keystone ecosystems is in accord with U.N. Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Under Water and is a matter of global food security. ProjectQRRestore will organize ocean clean-up and restoration projects with local community involvement in Quintana Roo, Mexico. We will raise awareness regarding the importance of coral reefs and any technological solutions developed regarding the sargasso continent. Once permits with local municipalities are obtained, we will undertake restoration and underwater planting campaigns in collaboration with blue-restoration institutes in Quintana Roo such as the Cozumel Coral Reef Protection Program and Coralium Labs. By planting vast stretches of seagrass meadows, and reproducing coral modules in-situ and ex-situ, we can create buffers against ocean degradation and protect Quintana Roo. The organization is organized exclusively for purposes pursuant to section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
