About Promised Land Secondary School
Promised Land Secondary School is one of the top secondary schools in South Sudan with an unbroken academic record in South Sudan National Examination results history. In 2018/2019, our students achieved remarkable success, with Michael Dut Arok Mabior earning the title of the top overall student with 96% and Kuei Garang Akok being recognized as the best overall female student with 93%. This marked the first time that the top two students from a single school led the nation in the national examinations. Founded in 2016 by Jok Abraham Thon, a South Sudanese educational leader with a passion for peacebuilding and youth empowerment. Jok himself experienced the hardships of conflict, having been a refugee in Uganda. His personal journey and commitment to education led him to establish Promised Land Secondary School as a means to transform the lives of conflict-affected students. Established with 280 students, Promised Land Secondary School opened its Primary school and Promised Land College in 2020, bringing the total number of students to 1,500 students and 1,438 graduates in 9 years, with 745 alumni progressing to universities within South Sudan and abroad, including Princeton University and Anderson University in the United States and the University of British Columbia in Canada, by providing education, Some of our alumni have become teachers at Promised Land Primary School, which provides education to children aged 5 to 15. Promised Land Secondary School championed the fight against early girl child marriage, child soldier recruitment, drug abuse, and criminal activities among young people in South Sudan. Through parents and community meetings, we have touched the lives of students and their families, leading to transformative experiences and inspiring testimonies. Parents who were once skeptical about their daughters' education have witnessed the profound impact of the school's initiatives in the community and among the learners.
