About Protection & Empowerment Network (P.E.N.)
The organizers of P.E.N. have a vision for an uplifted and restored Liberia, starting with the most underrepresented communities. Having seen the devastation caused by a nearly two-decade-long civil war, our founder (Sedia P. Mantein) pursued a career in social work, focusing on providing aid to women and children who were victims of domestic abuse and violence. In 2022, she expanded her efforts by creating P.E.N. and since then, the organization has brought people from both Liberia and the U.S. on board to fulfill its mission. Our vision is “Restoring their hope through health & wellness, economic development, and social equality.” Our mission is “Restoring the hope of women and underrepresented community members through mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual resources and advocacy. Providing education and economic awareness and development via training, campaigns, workshops, and employment projects. Our goal is to establish equality and build peace within the community to positively influence social change.”
