About Public Health Initiative: Leaders of Tomorrow (PILOT)
We are a pre-professional on-campus organization at the University of California, Los Angeles that aims to provide students interested in a career in public health the resources, mentorship, and networking opportunities to ensure adequate professional preparation and passion. Why does PILOT exist? We believe each student with a passion for furthering their study and career options in public health should have access to resources and expertise on campus. However, the size of public health minor is limited and the presence of other health professions (nursing, medicine etc.) student representation is disproportionally higher compared to public health related opportunities. What does PILOT do? Seeing such need to bridge the gap of resource provision and student interest, we partner with UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and the Career Center. With PILOT’s presence since 2015, we have held professional development events, mentorship programs, and issued newsletters. We have also offered networking, internship, and research opportunities for undergraduate students. With these quality programs, we have reached over 300 students on campus who demonstrated interest in the field of public health. Why is PILOT unique? We are the only pre-professional public health club on UCLA campus to stimulate undergraduate students to provide education and career development opportunities to become the next generation public health leaders.
