puo phara productions (pty) ltd – trading as puo pha productions, is a south african production company headed by makgano mamabolo vincent moloi and lodi matsetela - passionate creatives that alternate between the roles of writer, producer, director. puo pha is intent on making great film and television, regardless of genre or format. recently puo pha shot berea a short film (funded by focus features/africa first, goethe and the hubert bals fund), which had its african premier at the 2013 durban international film festival, north american debut at the 2013 toronto international film festival, and the european launch at the rotterdam film festival and this was followed by many other film festival. puo pha’s mission as a company, is to facilitate the growth of other young filmmakers as well as their own – directors, cinematographers, art directors, performers and writers; all in an effort to ensure that there is a generation of experienced filmmakers who will also in turn transfer their skills to an upcoming crop of filmmakers in south africa – this forms part of their mandate in the newly garnered three year long R4.5million slate to develop and produce documentaries with the nfvf. the projects described in this dossier form part of puo pha’s five year long company strategy; produce three documentaries as per the nfvf slate and to develop and shoot two feature length films, and this to be done in collaboration with co-producers from different territories. so as in alain gomis’s quote, “we fight for our projects today, so that they may come to life in the future”.
