About Putnam Community Cares

Community Cares is a 501(c)3 non profit serving Putnam and Northern Westchester Counties in New York. It was founded in 2007 by Amy Sayegh, a breast cancer survivor, to provide household support to moms and dads struggling with a cancer or other major medical diagnosis. Community Cares provides meals on chemo day, donated by local restaurants. Along with meals, Community Cares also provides household cleaning and laundry services. Raising children is difficult enough when you are healthy, imagine if you are struggling with an illness. Meals are donated from our generous sponsors and delivered by local volunteers to the family. Restaurants interested in donating meals are called upon one time per month to provide a family meal either of their choosing or allowing the families to order from the menu. Community Cares then provides a voucher for the meal, and the volunteer delivers to the family. Household cleaning and laundry is hired out by Community Cares to local reputable cleaning services. We will provide up to 2 cleanings per month and up to 100 pounds of laundry per week. Community Cares provides grass roots help to families in the midst of a medical crisis so the families can concentrate on one thing, getting healthy again. Services are temporary, and each family situation is re-assesed every three months.
