About Queensland Nickel
Queensland Nickel is a leader in the production and distribution of high-quality nickel and cobalt. Refined from solely imported nickel ore supplies, the final nickel and cobalt products are sold across the world for use in the manufacture of stainless steel, specialty steels, alloys and chemicals. Queensland Nickel operates the Palmer Nickel and Cobalt Refinery which is located approximately 25km north of Townsville in Queensland, Australia, and is on the coast of Halifax Bay and adjacent to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Operational since 1974, Queensland Nickel has grown to become the region’s largest private employer, employing approximately 1000 staff, and is a keen contributor to local business and community activities. With a change of ownership in 2009, Queensland Nickel’s owner, Professor Clive Palmer, has re-shaped the business and ensures that operational success is rewarded with gestures that show true respect for the achievements and expertise of his staff. The business has developed a strong values system, an overriding commitment to safety and the environment whilst seeking continuous improvement every day. Together they have built a bright future for the business, the community and the supply of valuable nickel and cobalt products to the global community.
