About Queensland Trust for Nature
Queensland is Australia’s most naturally diverse state with more plant and animal species than any other state or territory. With more than 85 percent of land in Queensland privately owned or managed, use and management of private land is critical to achieving sustainable environmental goals. At Queensland Trust for Nature (QTFN) Biodiversity is our Business. We protect & enhance nature in Queensland through partnerships on privately owned land. QTFN is an independent non-for-profit trust that partners to protect, enhance and restore property, increasing the privately owned protected land across Queensland. We capitalize on our long-term holdings and use environmental markets, education and research to demonstrate the importance and value of biodiversity and productive landscapes. A fundamental aspect of our business is our Revolving Fund. Here’s how it works: we purchase or are donated land and protect it as a nature refuge (with a legally binding conservation agreement) then resell it to increase the privately owned protected area estate in Queensland. We then reinvest the funds from the sale in strategic land acquisition and biodiversity projects. Since its implementation in 2004, QTFN’s Revolving Fund has successfully secured more than 111,800 hectares across 18 properties. QTFN focuses on ecologically significant spaces, species, and wildlife corridors across Queensland for maximum impact.
