About Quinault Division of Natural Resources
The Quinault Division of Natural Resources (QDNR) is entrusted with the care, protection, and sustainable management of the 208,000-acre Quinault Indian Nation, located on the southwestern corner of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula—between the snow-capped Olympic Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. QDNR manages forests, fisheries, wildlife, water, and cultural resources across Quinault lands and within the Nation’s Usual and Accustomed Areas, including the ocean. Our stewardship balances sustainable timber harvest and fisheries management with the needs of fish, wildlife, and ecosystems to ensure a lasting legacy for future generations. Cultural sites such as the canoe stand—a grove of old-growth cedar trees maintained for traditional canoe building—reflect the deep respect embedded in our work. For the Quinault people, natural resources are inseparable from cultural identity, health, and economy. As a place-based Nation, our worldview is rooted in the understanding that people are a part of nature, not apart from it. Protecting these lands and waters safeguards not only ecosystems, but also the social, spiritual, and economic well-being of our community. With a dedicated team of nearly 90 scientists, field technicians, program managers, and support staff, QDNR oversees timber stewardship, freshwater and ocean fisheries, wildlife and cultural resource protection, air and water quality, and sand and gravel operations. We also manage Tribal enrollment, provide cultural resource review for outside agencies, and house the Geographic Information System (GIS) program, which delivers mapping, data management, and remote-sensing services to the Nation.
