About R & D Ecology

R & D Ecology has been formed by Dawn Thompson and Rhys Newell. Dawn Thompson is an experienced ecologist with over twelve years experience in ecological surveys and assessments, and holds a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Biology. She is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), and the Association of Environmental and Ecological Clerks of Works (AEECoW). Dawn has experience in undertaking and managing a range of surveys and assessments including Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), Ecology and Ornithology Chapters for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Habitat Regulations Appraisal (HRA), Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, as well as Ornithological and Protected Species Surveys, for over 300 projects. These numerous projects include a variety of development types such as energy, residential, utilities, roads and flood prevention schemes. Dawn also holds a LISS CSCS card, City & Guilds NPTC Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue certificate, and Outdoor First Aid certificate. Rhys has over nine years construction industry experience as a tree surgeon, where he has gained skills working onsite, including working at height and canopy assessment. He also has three years ecological surveying experience, including red squirrel, badger, otter, breeding birds and bats. Rhys is also a qualifying member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). Rhys holds a LISS CSCS card, Chain Saw certificate, City & Guilds NPTC Tree Climbing and Aerial Rescue certificate, and Outdoor First Aid certificate.
