About Radnor Range
Radnor is a privately owned UK-based organisation whose capability is centred on a multi-disciplinary range complex providing testing, evaluation and training services. Core competencies are centred on weapons, ordnance, munitions and explosives and their effects. In addition, we offer a safe and controlled testing environment for flying UAVs and drones as well as a confined site for the testing of RF and laser emitters. The External Range allows blast trials up to 75kg HE (approx 100kg TNT) and firing trials up to 3000m depending on calibre and ammunition nature. The indoor range, "Radnor Ballistics", offers environmental conditioning of targets and shooting up to 20mm rounds including FSPs. At Radnor we test armour and vehicles to STANAG4569/VSAG/VPAM; composition testing to EMTAP/AOP7/STANAG 4170; and, insensitive munition (IM) testing to AOP39/DEFSTAN 0035. Please contact us for more details or more trial and testing competencies. As part of its on-going evolution, the site is now accredited to ISO 17025 for blast and ballistic testing,ISO 9001-2008 and ISO 14001 and, is a MOD (UK) supplier and an approved DSTL and MoD training range. Radnor’s origins date back to the 1920’s when it was part of the then defence arm of Imperial Chemical Industries PLC (ICI). It subsequently became part of ICI’s subsidiary Imperial Metal Industries PLC (IMI) and was latterly utilised during the development of the majority of rocket motors produced by the UK defence sector during the last 40 years, along with a number of other weapons systems. In 1989 and in compliance with newly introduced regulations Radnor was licenced by the Health and Safety Executive as an explosive factory company for the manufacture and storage of explosives. Location The range is discreetly located on the Welsh border in a steep sided valley and is directly accessible from the A44. Radnor is two hours’ drive from Birmingham International Airport and two hours from Bristol.
