About Ramazzini Institute

The Ramazzini Insitute is a no-profit organization for cancer research and prevention of environmental diseases founded by Cesare Maltoni in 1987. In the Cesare Maltoni Cancer Research Center (CRCCM) laboratories important projects are developed, aiming to identify and quantify, on an experimental basis, carcinogenic risks and the toxicity of substances, compounds, agents and technologies present in living and working environments, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness and tolerability of medicines and active ingredients that can be used to help prevent the onset and/or progression of preneoplastic and neoplastic pathologies. For years the Ramazzini Institute has worked with the National Toxicology Program, of the US National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, to develop experimental data from long-term cancerogenesis bioassays, performed at the Cesare Maltoni Cancer Research Centre. The main aim of this collaboration is to make available to the scientific community the data of the studies published, and therefore to allow qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the risk and other research. More than 200 agents have been studied at the CRCCM. The results of many studies carried out over more than 40 years formed the scientific basis for national and international regulations. Secundary prevention and clinical activities, including early diagnosis and treatemnt of precancerous lesions, are performed in our clinical facilities. Our research laboratories are located in the Bentivoglio Castle (Bologna), Italy. Our clinical facilities are located in Bologna and Ozzano.
