About RCSI Cancer Society

The RCSI Cancer Society promotes cancer awareness through education and various fundraising events. We achieve this by liaising with multiple charities such as the Irish Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Ireland, and the Movember Foundation. Some of the events we have hosted for Breast Cancer Ireland include the Pink Party, Breast Cancer Awareness Day where students wear pink in solidarity and show their support, and the Great Pink Run (collaboration with the RCSI Running Club) where we encourage students to run, jog or walk to raise funds for cancer research. We also host a Movember fundraiser where students form teams and grow out their moustaches to gather support and raise funds; last year we raised over €2,500 for the Movember Foundation. We celebrate Daffodil Day, a day for us to give hope to those affected by cancer, to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society who support cancer patients by providing free advice and support, as well as by funding life-saving cancer research. The RCSI Cancer society has also caught interest in the education department. We host events such as Day in the Life of an Oncologist where students are able to interact with leading medical and surgical oncologists, and create Oncology Case Studies where students are able to learn more about various types of cancers and answer quiz questions. The RCSI Cancer Society also founded an amazing initiative called Hugs for Cancer which makes gift hampers for cancer patients, and aims to offer a 'hug' of comfort to those affected by cancer. We hope this initiative will allow RCSI students to see the direct impact of their charitable actions. Join the RCSI Cancer Society to connect with students with similar interests, learn more about the field of oncology, and promote awareness and raise funds for various charities that support those affected by cancer.
