About Reading Basecamp
As all great teachers know, teaching reading is an expedition. In fact, it is a series of expeditions, as each child or each class a teacher encounters will be wondrous in new and unexpected ways. READING BASECAMP guides teachers to understand the structure of the English language and to effectively teach using a Structured Literacy (Orton Gillingham) approach. It provides a safe space for educators to ask questions or begin learning without fear of judgment. READING BASECAMP endorses the work of Ron Yoshimoto and Orton Gillingham International, and Henri Brown serves as the Certified Master Trainer for Yoshimoto Orton Gillingham Approach (Y-OGA) trainings for North Carolina. Henri Brown is the former Executive Director of READWS and is a champion of its mission. She also teaches the Y-OGA courses sponsored by READWS. READING BASECAMP promotes the work of the International Dyslexia Association. It seeks out and serves as a collaborative partner of those who innovate while implementing this research-based, diagnostic and prescriptive approach known as Structured Literacy.
