About Reading Legacies

Together, we can positively impact the life of a child, no matter the age. At Reading Legacies, we work with and are in collaborations with an array of community partners such as prisons, school districts, victims services centers, detention facilities, children's hospitals, early childhood head start programs, libraries (anywhere and everywhere really) to connect families separated by incarceration and/or addiction recovery, help strengthen family bonds and empower parents or guardians as a child’s first teacher, through the cherished and impactful read-aloud experience. Studies indicate that reading aloud to children is the single best predictor of a child’s success in reading, setting them up for emotional, social and educational success, which is paramount as our youth are a powerful and important resource for a prosperous society and for future generations. If you are looking to give back to families in need and invest your time and resources for children (of all ages), youth, underserved communities and marginalized populations, you have come to the right place! We are always accepting donations to help us bolster our programming locations and welcome all who may be called to volunteer with us! Our Founder, Betty Mohlenbrock, has witnessed time and time again for more than two decades the impact that reading aloud with young children has on people of all ages, not just the child or parents. These lived experiences led her to begin shaping the framework for programs that would positively impact all children and youth, especially those who are underserved. Our vision is that all children will feel the security of caring adult relationships and develop a love of reading through the read-aloud experience.
