About Real Estate and Planning at Henley Business School, University of Reading
Founded in 1968 the department of real estate and planning is a global leader in real estate and planning education and research. It is one of the largest departments in the world with such a specialism and our community spans over thirty full time academics, seven hundred plus current students and a global alumnus of more than twelve thousand real estate and planning professionals. We produce real estate and planning professionals whose activities impact the lives of countless individuals on a daily basis, through the advice they provide on creating places to live, work and play in, on shaping land use at scales from the local to the global and through the provision financial analysis and investment advice on the world’s largest asset class - real estate. Our graduates are also at the forefront of debate and action on climate change and sustainability. Likewise the research carried out by the department has significant real world impacts spanning expertise on placemaking and development, land use planning and policy, market analysis, the financial analysis of real estate as an asset class and the economic analysis of a wide range of real estate and planning involvements. An emerging theme of research in the department relates to the impacts of climate change and policy initiatives in the field of sustainability on the real estate and planning sectors. The department enjoys very close links with a wide range of industry and government stakeholders. In many cases these relationships are fostered and shaped through the activities of out alumni association The Reading Real Estate Foundation (RREF). Our programmes are accredited by the relevant professional bodies The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
