About Rebuilding Together North Jersey
Rebuilding Together North Jersey provides critical home repairs and home modifications at no cost to low-income homeowners* with a focus on seniors, veterans, those with physical or developmental disabilities, families with young children and other nonprofits. Founded as an initiative of The Junior League of Bergen County in 1998 (and formerly called Rebuilding Together Bergen County), we have worked on more than 550 local homes in 49 towns with thousands of volunteers. Our vision is safe homes and communities for everyone. Programs include: National Rebuilding Day: an annual event on the last Saturday in April when we coordinate the majority of our local projects with our national affiliates to make the largest single day impact possible. Fire Prevention and Fire Safety Education: providing education materials and installation of 10-year lithium-battery smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Accessibility Modifications: installation of wooden transition ramps for those who have disabilities that make it difficult or impossible to use exterior stairs. Aging in Place: assistance to seniors (65+) with minor to medium repairs that allow them to remain safely and comfortably at home. Community Revitalization: Repairing and improving community buildings and nonprofit facilities; doing block builds and neighborhood clean-up; building or upgrading community gardens and neighborhood playgrounds.
