About ReCreate

Our mission at ReCreate is to divert clean usable waste to use in hands-on learning and creative exploration to make both our schools and the community a more vibrant place while bridging the education gap. ReCreate is committed to reducing waste in our community—and inspiring others to do the same—through art, education, and imagination. ReCreate has taken its More Art! Less Waste! program to over 15,000 elementary school students in the greater Sacramento region, teaching students about the importance of diverting and reducing waste. ReCreate also offers our GeniusMobile - a mobile maker space to bring hands-on project based STEAM (science, technology, education, art, and math) learning to schools in our region, especially focusing on underserved schools. Students have fun while learning to tackle obstacles using critical thinking and an innovative approach to problem solving. In the last year we have also launched a distance learning version of our GeniusMobile programming, providing more flexibility for students in their STEAM education. You can also visit us in our ReUse Store and EcoArt Studio where we divert over 70 tons of material from landfill each year. At our ReUse Store, knitters, crafters, teachers, costume-makers, scrap-bookers, and holiday-decoration enthusiasts can find an array of exciting goods for their projects! We offer drop-in crafting and a multitude of workshops at our site from fine arts classes for adults to maker-education summer camps for tomorrow’s engineers—all using the materials we diverted from landfill, simultaneously helping our planet and educating people on why we should reduce, reuse, and recycle.
