About Red Deer Native Friendship Society
The Red Deer Native Friendship Society is non-profit, charitable Indigenous agency that has been providing Indigenous cultural teachings and intervention/prevention services that empower community since 1984. In a spirit of friendship, we make cultural connections and bring awareness of Aboriginal people and culture to all citizens of Red Deer. We have 3 main program teams that provide programs and services to ALL people. 1. The Four Directions Family Support Team provides in home and office supports to families/individuals focusing on prevention and intervention services. The Family Support Case Managers are registered social workers in Alberta, connecting with families to remediate any parenting concerns. The goal is to support families in experiencing family reunification and/or preventing out-of-home placements of children. The Cultural Family Educators offer parenting workshops and ongoing cultural support to individuals, families, and the community. They are knowledgeable in cultural protocols and cultural teachings. They facilitate several programs that offer cultural literacy programming for children and families. 2. The Pimacihowin Housing Team provides case management and support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness or who may be at risk of experiencing homelessness. Rooted in Indigenous culture these programs have a strong emphasis on connecting participants with ceremony, traditional practice, community, and cultural activities in support of their healing journey and housing stability. 3. The Nanâtawihowin Connections to Healing Team takes a lead role in providing Indigenous Cultural Supports to the staff at the Friendship Centre, our program participants, partners, and community at large. Our team members are passionate about helping others on their healing journey. We have a variety of cultural programs for youth, elders and seniors, and the community at large.
