About Refugee Support Group 💚

Refugee Support Group (RSG) helps refugees and asylum seekers rebuild their lives in Berkshire. Founded in 1994 RSG has responded to thousands of refugees, supporting individuals and families across the county — people from over 50 countries who have fled war, persecution, violence, trafficking and modern slavery. Many have experienced torture or have No Recourse to Public Funds. We provide a safe, welcoming space and OISC-accredited legal advice, often stepping in when all other support has failed. Our team helps people through complex asylum claims and appeals, while offering holistic, practical support — from accessing healthcare and education to setting up bank accounts and applying for jobs. We run free English language classes, drop-in centres, and social activities to help people connect, build confidence and regain independence. Our resettlement teams in Reading and Newbury guide newly arrived families through an integration journey. Children are supported through our term-time Homework Club and our Sanctuary Strikers football team and yoga classes build physical and mental wellbeing through sport and community. We work in partnership with local organisations to meet essential needs like housing, clothing and food. We also advocate for refugee rights, raise awareness of the challenges they face and campaign for a fairer asylum system. At RSG, we believe in dignity, safety and hope — and in every person’s right to thrive.
