About Register Of Chinese Herbal Medicine

The Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine was set up in 1987 to regulate the practice of Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) in the UK and has over 300 members. Chinese medicine is far broader than Chinese herbal medicine. It encompasses acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, dietary therapy, exercise therapy such as t'ai chi or qi gong and Tuina/massage. In fact nearly all of our members practice the full range of Chinese medical therapies, including acupuncture. We set and maintain high standards in Chinese herbal medicine and the other therapies which are part of Chinese medicine. In order to be a member of the RCHM a practitioner must have a degree in Chinese herbal medicine, or a qualification that is equivalent to a degree. In addition, members adhere to a Code of Ethics and Good Practice and have full professional insurance. The Register is a member of the European Herbal & Traditional Medicine Practitioners Association (EHTPA), an umbrella organisation of different herbal traditions that work together and which for over a decade has called for statutory regulation (SR) for herbal medicine in the UK.
