The Renaissance Charter Schools are free, public charter schools serving the culturally diverse neighborhood of Western Queens, New York. TRCS in Jackson Heights was founded by educators, parents, and community leaders 30 years ago who were concerned about the future of New York City. Renaissance is based on the conviction that a change in the destiny of a single individual can lead to a change in the fate of a community, nation, and ultimately humankind. Students are our primary focus, with our “three-tiered curriculum” consisting of core studies, experiential learning, and community leadership. Each tier is valued equally as a significant pathway for student learning; we embed social-emotional learning into the core competencies that educate hearts, inspire minds, and help people navigate the world effectively. The Renaissance Charter School 2’s doors opened in September 2020, first sharing a space with Martin Luther High School in Maspeth while building its permanent home in Elmhurst, Queens. TRCS 2’s home campus opened in Fall 2022, where its growing student body now includes Kindergarten through 6th grade and 9th-10th grades, eventually growing to become one of the only K-12 schools in NYC. TRCS 2 mirrors the multi-cultural tableau that defines Queens and District 24, welcoming all students and families without regard to race, ethnicity, creed, home language, learning needs, or national origin.
