About Répertoire International de Littérature Musicale (RILM)
Founded in 1966, RILM is a global organization dedicated to documenting and making accessible the world’s musical knowledge across all traditions, languages, and disciplines. With a mission grounded in scholarly rigor and cultural inclusivity, RILM provides digital resources that support music research and performance worldwide. RILM’s flagship publication, RILM Abstracts of Music Literature, indexes over 2,400 journals and a broad array of media—including monographs, dissertations, and conference proceedings—spanning musicology, ethnomusicology, theory, education, and interdisciplinary fields. With over 1.7 million records and sophisticated indexing, it connects users to global music scholarship from the early 19th century to the present. Since 2016, a growing number of full-text journals (currently around 300) are available through RILM Abstracts with Full Text. RILM’s offerings are hosted on EBSCO and on its own platform, Egret. It also develops and maintains multilingual, cross-cultural music reference resources. Accredited by UNESCO as an NGO providing advisory services, RILM plays an active role in preserving and safeguarding the world’s musical heritage as well as fostering cultural diversity. RILM is a joint project of four major international organizations: IAML, ICTMD, IMS, and IASPM, and is guided by a Commission Internationale Mixte with representatives from each. Based at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City, RILM’s editorial and technical teams collaborate with a global network of national committees and partners. To learn more, visit rilm.org
