OUR VISION We envision an Oakland that celebrates our inherent interconnectedness, where communities feel safe and residents are supported by a restorative economy and a thriving cultural community. We build towards a world where resources in our city are controlled democratically by the community. We envision a world where healing isn’t seen as a luxury, but rather a valued part of building people power. We invest in our community-owned building that holds permanent spaces where local residents can gather to be their full authentic selves and deepen relationships. OUR MISSION At Restore Oakland, we advance community-governed projects that build political power, create shared economic prosperity, and cultivate collective healing. We believe that collective liberation is intertwined with personal healing. Our mission is to create models of safe and thriving communities and economies. Our community space brings residents of Oakland together to build wholeness, a sense of safety, and democratic wealth. OUR VALUES First and foremost we are relationship builders. Our values center reciprocity, courage, and belonging. As staff, partners, and participants, we are building long term pathways towards a liberatory future. Reciprocity - We believe that mutual aid and cooperation, not competition, creates abundance and safety in our lives. We put stock in the process of being in relationship with others. Courage - We strive to be bold and daring in our community-responsive projects because we trust in the wisdom of Oakland residents. It takes courage to be your full self, and we try to elevate this wisdom. Belonging - As a place-based organization in a rapidly changing city, we value creating accessible and safe gathering spaces.
