About RETE - Association for the Collaboration between Ports and Cities
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION RETE is an international non-profit association which promotes cooperation between ports and cities, analyses and interprets the distinctive features of relations between them, and devises strategies for their future. MISSION RETE’s overall mission is to construct a ‘network’ of port cities and ports with particular regard to Mediterranean Europe and Latin America. NODES The organizational structure of RETE is a ‘network’, (in Italian rete) consisting of interconnections among the individuals and organizations affiliated with the Association, which operate as 'Nodes'. There are local Nodes (individual members) and advanced Nodes (groups of members that assume greater responsibilities in developing and managing initiatives). TRAINING The organization of courses, workshops, and specialized seminars is a core component of RETE’s scientific commitment. These initiatives, besides enhancing the expertise of professionals and university students, are key channels for discussion, analysis of experiences, and the definition of new concepts within the complex array of port-city relations. RESEARCH RETE’s contribution to the development of research and scientific output on ports and port cities consists in promoting, driving, and managing new knowledge. It adopts a multidisciplinary approach to furnish an overview of issues concerning port cities. In this regard of particular importance are the Association’s publications. The Magazine & the Journal of RETE PORTUS is RETE’s online magazine: an international scientific forum on topics concerning port cities and an essential tool for the study of work and experiences in the field of port-city relations and the regeneration of waterfronts. Every year, RETE’s journal PORTUSplus publishes papers selected by an international committee of experts.
