About Rethink The Conversation®

Rethink The Conversation was founded by Joanne Lelewer Harpel in loving memory of her brother, Stephen, who took his own life at 26, less than a year after suddenly developing bipolar disorder. We create unique programs that shift perspective around issues that are often tinged by stigma, misinformation, lack of attention, or indifference. No other organization harnesses the same blend of strategic thinking, evidence-base, and innovation. We develop each of our signature programs (our Rethinks) by asking: Where’s the gap? What’s our unique role? Who are the best partners? What’s the most original and impactful approach? Our programs create points of entry that bring together people who are connected via shared life experience, profession, and/or leadership role and who seek to inspire deeper understanding and concrete behavior changes in others.
